10 Things To Look Forward To In World Fest 2020 at University of Kent

There’s more to studying abroad than… studying.

There’s also the fun experiences every international student looks forward to as they immerse in a foreign country. #facts

At the University of Kent, one of the UK’s leading universities, having fun happens all year-round. Thanks to its dynamic student groups! This March, the most-awaited World Fest 2020 is taking over the Canterbury and Medway campuses. Exciting activities are lined up to celebrate the cultural diversity of the student community and tbh, we’ve got our favorites shortlisted already.

Check out our quick rundown of #WorldFest2020 events. And yes, consider this your checklist!

1. International Food Fair

It’s been said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Well, we could say the same thing for international students. What better way to know other cultures than tasting their traditional cuisine? Prepare your taste buds because Spanish Paella, Ile Afrik, Flo’s Falafals and more food stands will be there to serve you with culture and good food!

Location: Jarman Plaza, Canterbury campus, United Kingdom

2. FitnessFest 2020

After eating to your heart’s content in the food fair, head straight to Fitness Fest 2020! Burn those extra calories all while learning Bollywood and Indian dance techniques to name a few. There are also circuits and spinning classes to get your blood pumping. How’s that for culture and cardio workout hybrid?

Location: Sports Center, Canterbury campus, United Kingdom

3. K-Pop Dance Session Taster

If you can’t get enough of dancing just yet, the Dance Society gotchu covered with Medway’s first K-Pop Dance session! Dance the night away like your favorite KPop idols, and appreciate cultural diversity more through music. Committee members will also be there should you be interested in joining the society.

Location: The Student Hub: The Mezzanine, Medway campus, United Kingdom

4. Panga (Free film screening)

Aside from LSS-inducing music, film is also a great way to showcase stories of cultural diversity. Grab a popcorn and sit back for a free film screening of Panga, an emotional roller coaster tale of a middle class Indian woman. Come for the movie, stay for the discussion.

Location: The Gulbenkian Cinema, Canterbury campus, United Kingdom

5. Voices of Un(Belonging)

There’s something about being heard that makes a difference. Following the Decolonise UKC Manifesto launched in March 2019, this series of talks and seminars invites Decolonise student groups for an insightful conversation you’ll never forget. There’s also a book launch happening afterwards!

Location: Gulbenkian Theater, Canterbury campus, United Kingdom

6. Global Hangout – Worldfest Quiz

From insightful discussion to heated competition real quick! Gather up with your friends and form a team of 6 to join the Global Hangout’s World Fest Quiz. Put your game face on and get a chance to win exciting prizes (read: Amazon vouchers).

PS. You have to donate an item to the Kent Union Food Bank to join the quiz. Talk about bringing fun in social responsibility!

Location: Woody’s Bar, Canterbury campus, United Kingdom

7. Medway Taskmaster

The (friendly) competition never stops. Gather up your squad once more for a night of games that will test your creativity, teamwork, and innovation!

Hosted by the Employability Points and GK Unions, the event will provide you tips on improving your employability, a free meal, and a chance to win £200—in that particular order.

Location: The Deep End, Medway campus, United Kingdom

8. Painting Teapots

Put the competition aside and sit down for a friendly afternoon tea. Indulge yourself with a ceramics painting session and learn about the traditional British tea party. Take your pick from a variety of tea pots, mugs, sugar bowls and saucers! After all, there’s always time for new friends and some tea.

Location: The Student Hub: The Social Space, Medway campus, United Kingdom

9. Holi

When it comes fun, no one’s sitting out on this colorful event. In the spirit of cultural diversity, University of Kent students celebrate Holi, the Hindu spring festival which celebrates love, frolic, and colors. Join the fun and wear a white t-shirt! We just can’t promise it stays that white after the Holi and all those colored powders coming your way.

Location: Eliot Field, Canterbury campus, United Kingdom

10. International Showcase

Last but not least, come and enjoy the finale of the World Fest 2020. Feast your eyes with vibrant cultural music and dance presentations from the different University of Kent societies. Or join them in it. That’s better.

Location: The Colyer-Fergusson Hall, Canterbury campus, United Kingdom
