5 Scholarships In South Korea For Your Fangirl Heart

That’s the average number of Filipino tourists visiting South Korea every year. Are you part of the statistics? Whether or not you’ve stepped on the land of the morning calm, there’s no denying that South Korea remains a dream destination- not just for travel, but increasingly for educational opportunities as well. (Thanks to our K-Drama marathon, that is.)

While some students settle for their dreams to… well, remain dreams because of financial limitations, we say you don’t have to! Given the right amount of determination and a dash of enthusiasm inherent to every fangirl’s DNA, you can study in South Korea without hurting your wallet too much. How? By treating scholarships as your new chingu!

 

KAIST International Students Undergrad Scholarship

Do science and engineering excite you? Are you an aspiring scientist? Do you want to study for free in South Korea? If you answered yassss to all three, then apply to the KAIST scholarship! KAIST is the leading research-oriented university in South Korea, and they’re welcoming young leaders and innovators like you to join their discoveries.

Are you eligible for the KAIST scholarship?

  • Must be an international student
  • Enrolled in KAIST before application

What’s in it for you?

  • Full tuition fee
  • 350,000 KRW monthly living allowance
  • National health insurance coverage

 

Future Global KU Scholarship

If you’re planning for a more short-term study in South Korea like in a Student Exchange Program (SEP) or a Visiting Student Program (VSP), check out Korea University (KU)’s Future Global KU scholarship. True to its name, this grant hopes to empower you to be a future global leader even for the short stay you’ll be on campus. Plus, KU’s proven track record of academic excellence and fun should make it easy for you!

Are you eligible for the KU scholarship?

  • Must be an international student
  • Enrolled in a recognized institution outside South Korea
  • Admitted in an SEP or VSP at KU
  • Must be at least an incoming sophomore student
  • Has a minimum grade of at least 75%
  • Must be fluent in English or Korean

What’s in it for you?

  • 400,000 KRW monthly stipend (for the first four semesters)

 

Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP)

We’re calling it. South Korea wants more Filipino students, and they’re willing to fund it ‘til it happens IRL! As part of the Korean Ministry of Education’s “Study Korea 2020” program, you can enjoy educational aid for four-year undergraduate degrees in SoKor. And the best part? You can use it to apply in SKY universities like the prestigious Seoul National University. What are you waiting for? The SKY is the limit!

Are you eligible for the KGSP scholarship?

  • Must be an international student
  • Willing to study a 4-year undergraduate program in a Korean university

What’s in it for you?

  • Full tuition fee
  • 800,000 KRW monthly living allowance
  • One (1) economy round trip airfare
  • One (1) year Korean language training fee*
  • Miscellaneous fees (e.g. medical insurance, settling fee)

 

Samsung Global Sungkyun Scholarship

Through Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU)’s close partnership with tech giant Samsung, this scholarship is continuously being offered for incoming international students in their freshmen year. If you’re leaning towards science and engineering, you wouldn’t want to miss this opportunity! (You can thank us later.)

Are you eligible for the SKKU scholarship?

  • Must be an international student
  • Must be an applicant of English Track or Korean-English Selective Track

  • Full tuition fee
  • 500,000 KRW monthly living allowance
  • Dormitory fee coverage

  • Exclusive counseling program

 

Scholarship Based On Entrance Score For Foreign Nationals

When it comes to scholarships, Yonsei University (YU) has options, options, options! Like most universities, YU encourages cultural diversity and higher international student enrolment by rolling out financial grants based on a student’s academic record. Depending on how well you do at YU’s admission exam, you can avail an entrance fee waiver to a 100% tuition waiver. Go for gold and score that full scholarship!

Are you eligible for the YU scholarship?

  • Must be an international student
  • Incoming student at YU (except those enrolled in the Wonju College of Medicine)

  • Full or partial tuition fees
