Did you know that UP Open University is also a top choice among celebrities?

UP Open University has shifted online to provide open and distance learning to everyone around the world. With this, you can pursue programs and degrees online, in the comfort of your own homes. If you’re planning to finish your studies, this might be your calling!

UP Open University courses for associate, undergraduate, post-baccalaureate diploma, master’s, doctoral, non-formal, and certification programs. These are divided into three faculties: Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS), Faculty of Education (FEd), and Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FICS).

The University has become an avenue for people who are always on the go! (Maybe that’s why more celebrities are going for it). Singers, actors, politicians –name it! There’s no stopping these celebrities from pursuing their dreams. They have proven to us that learning should not stop, no matter what our status in life is.

Here are some personalities you might know!

1. Jejomar Binay

First on the list is former Vice President of the Philippines and former Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay. With his impressive educational background and with multiple degrees, Binay also received a diploma in Environmental and Natural Resources Management.

Binay has definitely made learning a lifetime commitment, showing how we should always strive to acquire more knowledge, especially for politicians wherein a vast number of skill sets are required to successfully serve their constituents.  This is especially true for life-long politicians like Binay.

2. Miguel Zubiri

Incumbent Senator and Chair of the Philippine Senate Cooperatives Committee Juan Miguel Zubiri has also received his degree in OPOU by studying Master of Environment and Natural Resources Management. He has continued his passion for the environment with him having a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management degree in the UP Los Baños.

3. Richard Gomez

The former matinee idol and incumbent Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez is also an OPOU alumnus. Gomez has used his Associate in Arts degree in OPOU as a foundation in order to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration degree in the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA. UP Open University has really provided a more convenient avenue for everyone to continue their studies and pursue further learning.

4. Sharon Cuneta

Popularly known as “Megastar,” Sharon Cuneta also earned an Associate in Arts degree at UP Open University. Despite her age, she did not let it become a hurdle to pursue a college degree. She might also be one of the famous actresses in the country ever, but it did not stop her from striving to continue and finish her studies.

The Megastar was only 14 years old when she decided to forego her high school education and become a full-fledged singer and actress. Being married to Senator Kiko Pangilinan who is offering scholarships to deserving students in UPOU also helped in convincing her to continue her studies.

5. Sarah Geronimo

Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo has also earned an Associate in Arts degree at UP Open University. It was also rumored multiple times that she plans to pursue further studies, showing how Sarah values education. She might have been married now and has become one of the most successful artists in the country, but her passion for learning is definitely admirable.

Geronimo was also known as a vocal supporter of Senator Sonny Angara, a politician with advocacy on education and has been one of the proponents of The Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act and Unified Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education Act (UNIFAST) which help underprivileged students study in college.

6. Jackie Lou Blanco

Like Sharon Cuneta, actress Jackie Lou Blanco also did not let age stop her from continuing her studies by enrolling in the Associate in Arts program of UPOU. She is the daughter of a famous Filipino Music singer and actress Pilita Corrales. Currently, she is a columnist at the Philippine Star newspaper.

7. Rachelle Anne Go

Filipino singer and international musical theater actress Rachelle Anne Go has also enrolled in UPOU in 2008 pursuing an Associate in Arts degree. Go has already taken up an international business and entrepreneurship program at San Beda College, but she had to stop due to joining the Search for a Star talent show on GMA Network. Her budding international career did not stop her from still finishing her education.

Aside from the seven on the list, other famous people have also taken advantage of online education. Some celebrities pursued online learning in other universities and colleges. Distance learning has really helped a lot of people to continue studying despite their full-time jobs. Some of its benefits cannot really be overstated.
