Stanford University is a private educational institution in the United States. It was founded in 1885 by former California Governor Leland Stanford and his wife, Jane. Legally known as Leland Stanford Junior University, it was named in memory of the Stanfords' only child, Leland, Jr., who died of typhoid.

The University has a total of seven schools and offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of Business, Education, Engineering, Humanities and Sciences, Law, Medicine, and Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences.
