What does University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) stand for?
The University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC), the first Catholic school in Davao City, has crossed the centennial threshold as an educational institution. Founded in 1905 by the Religious of the Virgin Mary (RVM) as the St. Peter Parochial School, it initially offered only primary and intermediate courses. In 1934, the school opened a secondary department and assumed the name Immaculate Conception Academy, and with the first batch of high school graduates in 1938, it was renamed the Immaculate Conception Institute. In 1948, the school was re-named Immaculate Conception College (ICC) which then offered initial two collegiate courses namely: Collegiate Secretarial and Pharmacy. Through the years, additional college, graduate and post-graduate programs were offered.
Today, UIC is on three campuses, the Fr. Selga and Bonifacio Campuses for Higher Education and the Bajada campus for the Basic Education. There are thirty (30) college programs, sixteen (16) graduate programs, and four (4) post-graduate programs. The Basic Education which is aligned with K to 12 starts with the Pre-School Program for the young’s growth and holistic development, the Grade School program is anchored on CARES (Commitment to Academic Resources Enhancement and Service), and the Junior and Senior High School program Leads and Shapes young people to higher goals and a wisely chosen College course.
